This research aims to find out the effectiveness of using games to improve students’ speaking ability. A quantitative research was used. 20 students of the first grade of SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung were taken as samples for this study. They were given speaking pre-test and post-test. Based on statistical formula using T-test, it was found that the t-value was -9.951 and the p-value was < .001 (two-tailed) indicate a highly significant difference between the two sets of scores and the level of significance indicates that the score was 0.001<0.005. Since the p-value is less than 0.005, it can be concluded that there was a significant improvement in students’ speaking ability after they were taught using communicative games. In summary, it is suggested that teachers use this technique in teaching speaking.
